Let Nature Relieve Your Stress

Monday, April 25th, 2011

When we wake up in the morning, we have the expectations of seeing the same thing day in and day out. The inside of our home, the inside of our office, and any other daily stop we make along the way. The beauty of nature is something we take for granted, and often deprive ourselves of completely. It is a fact that humans crave a connection with nature. Deep down inside of us it has been ingrained that a part of us belongs in nature. We’ve done a good job of convincing ourselves that we need to be in a busy city, going about our day with a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Now this may be a good way to keep ourselves out of trouble and cross out those checklists we each undoubtedly have, it is not everything.

Some people express this love of nature by gardening, creating their own little piece of the heaven all the while benefiting from the nutriciously edible “fruits” of their hard work. Others make their career entirely focused on horticulture and all the wonderful facets contained within. Those of us who are stuck inside of a big city with only the occasional glimpse of something green need to have some other outlet, something else that connects us with the world we once roamed free in. This is where landscape photography books can help us revive our desire for the untamed wilderness that constantly eludes our grasp.

It has also been proven that nature has a certain therapeutic aspect that we can gain by spending time in it. Any landscape photography for sale can show you that there is a certain tranquility that comes from being outside the hustle and bustle of city life. Henry David Thoreau, an American author and philosopher, spent many years secluded in nature. He is quoted as saying, “I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright.” This could not be any more true, as our lives are congested and clogged with the busy-body mentality which allows no room to ponder life and nature. Taking time out of your day to think about things in a beautiful setting is not only important for your mental health, but your physical health too. Those things that are best for us to eat and be around often come from nature. The Earth has provided for us, all we need to do is partake.

Utah Marijuana Law

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Out of the Western states, Utah has some of the strictest marijuana laws when it comes to buying, posessing, and selling. In fact, any marijuana related conviction results in a drivers license suspension for six months. Unlike many other states, Utah currently does not have a medicinal marijuana exemption law. The public, Utah criminal attorneys, and lawmakers are divided on this issue due to moral and ethical concerns.

In Utah, posession of less than one ounce can be punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of $1,000. Possesing more than 1 lb is considered a felony and can recieve a 5 year prison sentence. The sale of any amount of marijuana runs a fine of $5,000 and 5 years in jail. If sold in the presence of a minor and depending on the location can also make a large impact in the sentence.

Those against legalizing marijuana in the state of Utah argue that the negative effects of the drug outweigh the positive. They say using the drug for medicinal purposes has not been approved by the FDA, it does not provide consistent results, inhaling the smoke and other chemicals is harmful to the body, it is a “gateway drug” to harder drugs, and there are less dangerous medicines available that will offer the same relief from pain. In addition, there are moral and ethical issues with using the drug.

Those who support the legalization of marijuana, say that marijuana is less toxic than many other drugs prescribed by physican andlimits the use of personal freedom. A recent poll shows that eight in ten Americans support legalizing the drug for medical use.

If you are in Utah, and are charged with possesion or selling of marijuana, contact an experienced Salt Lake City Law firm to help you understand your rights and Utah marijuana law.

The Sun Is Shining and So Should Your Smile

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Your smile is such an important aspect of your personality everywhere you go, but especially in California. A local dentist in Orange CA can tell you that your smile is basically what a majority of people you interact will make their first judgements on. A recent study has shown that people tend to look directly at your mouth when you talk. This gives them plenty of time to examine your teeth and notice all of the flaws that are naturally there. Many people aren’t raised in a household where an emphasis is put on dental hygiene. This life-long habit of not taking care of your teeth is one of the most dangerous predispositions you can have. When you take good care of your teeth, it is important to know you’re taking good care of your overall health as well.

There is a certain fact that is quite strange but also quite true. Flossing daily can increase your life expectancy. It seems odd that a simple thing like flossing can increase your chances to live a longer and healthier life. Flossing plays an important role in removing unwanted bacteria as well as other things:

  • Flossing prevents gum disease, something you probably already knew. Gum disease is the inflammation of your gums directly caused by a bacterial infection in your mouth.
  • Flossing also helps prevent heart disease which is a fact that few people readily know. When you have a chronic bacterial infection in your mouth bacteria can find a way into your arteries. When your body fights back against the infection your arteries narrow. If your arteries are filled with bacteria and they narrow, then that is a recipe for some serious trouble.

It doesn’t matter if you need tooth replacement in Orange CA, or just an annual check up, make sure you make your dental health a top priority.

Protecting Your Immune System

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

In the past we’ve discussed the importance of certain practices in regards to boosting your immune system and allowing it to have all of the proper elements for balance and harmony. It’s very important to know what to do, but equally as important to know what NOT to do. The following are all good habits that can help your immune system have the fighting chance it deserves.

  • Avoid Alcohol – Alcohol produces nutritional deficiencies that deprive the body of valuable nutrients that are essential in boosting the strength of your immune system. Sugar and alcohol are both very similar when it comes to reducing the ability of white cells to kill germs. This important function is essentially what your immune system is there for. How can you expect it to fight of the effects of Hep A, or some other autoimmune disease if your white cells aren’t doing what they’re supposed to? This, in addition to the fact that alcohol inhibits the white cells ability to multiply is a recipe for disaster. As a general rule of thumb, if the amount of alcohol you’re drinking causes intoxication, then it is enough to prevent your immune system from doing its job.
  • High In Sugar – A statistic shows that when you intake 100 grams of sugar, it can reduce the ability for your white blood cells to fight off bacteria by forty percent. If you reduce your intake of sugar, along with incorporating many other healthy eating practices, then your white blood cells will be allowed to do what they are meant for, and that’s protecting your body from infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B.
  • Inactivity – Obesity can heavily effect the white blood cells ability to produce antibodies and to multiply. It also could drastically increase the amount of time it takes for your white blood cells to respond to an infection. Usually they are pretty quick about rushing to the scene of an infection, but they can move sluggishly if you’re moving sluggishly as well.

You cannot completely prevent yourself from getting sick. People get sick, it’s just the way things are. You can, however, lean things towards your favor by practicing healthy life styles.

Make Your Home Low Maintenance

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

After we work all week, one of the last things we want to do with our free time on the weekends is home repair and maintenance. It’s time consuming, can take some research, and a bit of elbow grease. There are some things you can do when building or renovating a home that can help to make it low maintenance for you. Intitally, some low maintenance features will be more expensive up front, but in the long run they’ll save you time and money.

Stone Exteriors

Stone exteriors have several advantages over other exterior alternative. They are durable and won’t chip, crack, rot, or dent. No cleaning or painting is required as stone actually gains more character as it ages. A stone exterior is energy efficient, keeping your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. In addition to all these low maintenance perks, homes with a stone exterior actually have a higher resale value.

Solid Countertops

Solid countertops, such as granite, are virtually maintaence-free because they don’t have crevices for dirt and grime to get stuck in. In addition, they last longer and keep their appearance better than tile, laminate, or butcher block counter tops. If they do get a scratch or stain, an abrasive cleaner will quickly take care of it.

Landscaping

Pulling weeds is many people’s least favorite chore. Hire a landscaper or if you are building a Daybreak Utah Home, consult with your developer on how you can create an attractive, yet low maintance lanscaping around your home.

So, whether you are in the looking for a Utah home for sale or just considering some updates to your own home, making the investment for low maintanence features will be worth your time and money.

Closing the Transportation Gap

Monday, April 18th, 2011

Over the years, due to an eruption in land development and poor community planning, many Americans are finding their commute to work and other businesses such as grocery stores, restaurants, and recreation centers, is getting longer and longer. Not only is this an inconvenience, but commuters also have to fight through greater amounts of traffic congestion. Some areas are beginning to adopt Smart Growth communities which help to close the transportation gap.

Smart growth communities are built around the idea of bringing work, necessary services, and recreation close to home. In doing so, residents have a variety of tranportation options to choose from to get to where they need to go without the hassle of fighting through traffic and spending an unncessary large part of their day commuting. This type of transportation planning can be seen in Daybreak Homes neighborhoods in Utah. These communities are build so residents can drive, walk, ride a bike, or take the bus because they are compact and well connected. Communities consisting of Daybreak Homes better coordinate land use to decrease redundancy and increase connectivity which makes them more pedestrian and bike friendly. In addition, they have worked with the Utah Transit Authority to bring a light rail TRAx line into their development in South Jordan so residents can catch a train into Salt Lake City rather than driving themselves.

With better city planning, people can have a variety of transportation options from which they can choose from to get to where they need to be. There are a variety of Daybreak homes for sale in Utah so it is time for you to decrease your commute and the hassle included and spend more of your day doing what you enjoy.

Top Things to Know When Buying Your First Home

Monday, April 18th, 2011

If you’re looking to buy a home in Utah, you’re in luck because it is definitely a buyers market. For first time home owners, this can be an exciting yet intimidating time. There are a a few good things to know and to prepare for the home buying experience.

  • Renting vs. Buying

Many people feel that buying a home is smarter than renting. However, if you are not planning on staying in the area for at least three years, you may be better off renting. This is because there are several costs associated with buying a home and selling it as well. When all is said and done, it may have been less expensive to rent.

  • Check your Credit

A few months before you go out to look at homes, make sure your credit history is as good as possible. Get copies of your credit report and make sure there are no errors. It is also a good idea to get pre approved for a loan before house hunting so you don’t spend time looking at houses you can’t afford and you’ll be in a better position when the time comes to make an offer.

  • Make and Stick to a Budget

When you are actually out looking at homes, it may be tempting to give exceed your budget. This can be prevented by making sure your realtor is aware of you budget and won’t show you anything out of your price range. There are online calculators that you can use to determine what you can afford. In addition, research the prices of homes in the area so you have a good idea of what a reasonable offer is.

  • Check out your Financing Options

There are several options available to you for financing your home. When exploring your options, think about your long term plan. If you are planning on staying in the home long term, you may be interested in a 30 year fixed rate mortgage. If you’re planning on buying this home as a starter, an adjustable rate mortgage may be a better option. If you are looking to buy from a developer such as Sego Daybreak Homes, ask if they have any recommended mortgage lenders. Going through a recommendation may help to streamline the process for you.

  • Hire and Inspector

Before closing on the house, hire an inspector to point out any potential problems. This will save you from unexpected and costly reapairs down the road. You may even be able to have the current home owners fix it before you move in.

Keep these tips in mind and do your own research and make buying your first home the positive experience it should be!

Harmony In Your Immune System

Monday, April 18th, 2011

Our bodies deserve more credit. The every-day processes our body does in order to repair itself or fight off bacteria is a miracle within itself. If someone were to contract the Hepatitis A virus, their immune system would fight off the disease as best it could as long as you had it. That means that 24 hours a day your immune system is working to protect you. A big reason why people never show signs of having Hepatitis is because of their immune system and its uncanny ability to keep those illnesses at bay. It’s important to remember, however, that your immune system is not perfect.

While it is true there are several ways to boost your immune system, there is a concept that is important to take note of. This is the concept of harmony within your body.

Things that could potentially effect your immune systems potency:

  • Stress Levels
  • Diet
  • Additional Supplements
  • Age
  • Exercise

The idea of harmony and balance is making sure you don’t overindulge in one area, and keeping yourself up in another area. Don’t overeat, don’t under-exercise, and vice versa. These methods of healthy living strategies have been the best way to help your immune system do it’s daily duties. Now, I want to stress that there is no direct scientific evidence that these methods boost “levels” of your immune system, but there has been a pattern in those individuals who use these methods to lead a healthy life style. It’s been fairly common sense all throughout our lives to eat healthily and exercise on a daily basis, it’s also been quite easy to say those things, but a whole different story entirely when it comes to putting them into practice. If you are infected with an autoimmune disease, give your body a fighting chance. I am issuing a challenge to all those who read this, do your body the biggest favor you can, and achieve the harmony it so rightly deserves.

Cosmetic Dentistry at Home

Monday, April 18th, 2011

When people think of cosmetic dentistry, they think it is all done in the dentists office. Well, there’s a little known fact that a good majority of Beverly Hills cosmetic dental work is done at home. Precautions and good practices are the key to having healthy, cosmetically attractive teeth. Here are some helpful tips from one who practices these techniques regularly.

  • Brushing – I’m sure your mothers voice is ingrained in your mind, morning and night, telling you how important it is to brush your teeth and build strong enamels. Well, if this is what she taught, then I firmly agree with all of her wisdom. Brush at least twice a day with a soft-bristled tooth brush, so you don’t damage the enamel. It’s also important to brush your tongue, as it is a hub of bacteria that are taking a free ride in your mouth.
  • Upkeep – Flossing daily to get rid of the food and bacteria that are in between your teeth is about as important as brushing. Replacing your toothbrush every few months so your bristles are strong enough to do their proper brushing job is essential.
  • Professional Help – We do as much as we can to help our teeth stay strong and healthy so we have full use of them for the rest of our lives. It’s important to know that having professional help to take are of your teeth is one of the best ways you can take care of them. Beverly Hills cosmetic dentists want you to know that they are here to help you keep your teeth in top shape.

Your healthy teeth represent who you are and who you want to be. People see a snapshot of your teeth and understand that you care for yourself, and it is important to you that you look like you do.
