Interpreting your Roofing Contractors Estimates

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Once you’ve gone out to get your roofing estimates for your Utah roofing project, you will need to sit down and determine which contractor will be the best to hire for your project. As you review the estimate, don’t only focus on the final cost. Be sure to also take the following into consideration:

Consider the Materials
In order to have a well built roof that will last, it needs to be built from quality materials. It is usually worth it in the long run to pay extra for a roof now, than have to pair for repairs or even a new roof sooner than expected. If the estimate doesn’t list the materials and labor, call the roofing contractor and ask for it.

It is also important to look at the insulation and sealants that will be used. Thicker insulation may be more expensive, but it can cut down on your heating and cooling costs.

Labor Costs
If the labor costs seem high, look into them further to determine why. Keep in mind that good roofing contractors Salt Lake City may charge a bit more for labor because of the extra cost to provide good training and salary to quality roofers. But be careful here as a higher cost may also mean a higher profit margin and not necessarily a better roof for you.

References
References can offer their first hand experience about the roofing contractor’s work. Be sure to ask your neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family members for their experience.

It is through asking questions and comparing estimates that you can find the best roofing contractor to take on your Salt Lake City roof project. This way you’ll be able to get a true comparison and the best deal for your roof.

Homemade Window Cleaners

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

There is a common trend for washing windows in Utah – ditch the name brand cleaners and make it yourself! This not only saves money or gives you a sense of an accomplished window cleaner, but also can leave your windows cleaner than they were when a commercial glass cleaner is used. Here are a few proven recipes for window cleaners:

Ammonia Recipe
1/2 cup ammonia
1 gallon warm water

Mix together and apply to windows. Use a squeegee or soft cloth to clean windows. Do not use if you have aluminum AMSCO windows. When ammonia comes into contact with aluminum it will cause damage.

Vinegar Recipe
1 part white vinegar
1 part warm water

Mix together and get cleaning with a soft cloth or squeegee.

Plain Old Water Recipe
Just use some good old water to clean your windows if they’re not terribly dirty. It’s guaranteed to be streak free!

When trying out these different recipes, don’t mix ammonia and vinegar together thinking you’ll get a doubly powerful cleaner. The fact is the two cancel each other out. As a reminder, never mix chlorine bleach with ammonia, vinegar, or any solutions that may contain them because this will result iin toxic fumes.

With these simple recipes, you’ll have inexpensive, environmentally friendly window cleaner that will get your windows looking better than ever!

Ready to Buy?

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Many Americans feel buying a home is not within their reach. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, home ownership is at its highest rate ever at 67.7%. With a little bit of information and knowing the right questions to ask, you can make owning a home a very real possibility.

Whether you have recently been considering buying Daybreak Townhomes or are simply toying with the idea, ask yourself the following questions to help gauge if you’re ready”

  1. Do you have a steady income?
When applying for a home loan, this is something creditors will look at. They will want to know what your employment history is and what your current income is to determine whether or not you are a good candidate. It is also something you should consider. If you have held a steady job, it is likely that it will continue into the future. This will give you peace of mind with taking on a large debt for buying your home.
  2. Do you pay your bills on time?
Another area creditors will look at is whether or not you pay your bills on time. If you have a history of doing so, they figure you will continue to do so in the future and show them that you are financially responsible. Paying those bills keeps you at less of a risk to loan to.
  3. What are your current debts?
If you are currently up to your neck in debt, it will be very hard for you to take on a mortgage. Don’t make things harder than they need to be. If you have debt, work on paying it off and then come back and consider buying a home.
  4. Can you make a down payment?
You will most likely be required to make a down payment. If you have money saved away, that’ great! If not, make a budget so you are able to put some money away each month. If you stick to it and make a plan, you’ll be in good shape.

Once you have honestly answered these questions, determine how you should proceed. If you feel you are ready to buy a home, find out the next steps you need to take to get started. If you feel you are not yet ready, make a plan and put dates to you goals. This way you will feel more accountable to accomplish those goals. In a few months, you could be a serious candidate for Daybreak Utah Homes for sale.

Before LASIK Surgery

Friday, June 24th, 2011

There are many benefits of getting LASIK in San Fransciso done. In order to have the best results keep reading to know how to prepare and what you can expect before LASIK surgery.

Preparation

Consultation
If you are considering LASIK surgery, you will first need to visit with a LASIK surgeon for an evaluation to determine if you are a good candidate. There are several factors that go into that decision such as if you had a change in your prescription within the last year, if you have a disease or are on medications that could delay healing, cornea thickness, and if it could jeopardize your career. Talking with your opthamologist will help you to discuss any concerns and whether or not LASIK is for you. Also, be sure to tell you LASIK surgeon of any past or present medical eye conditions and any medications you are taking.

For Contact Wearers
For those of you who wear contacts, you should stop wearing them before your evaluation. Contacts can change the shape of your cornea and it may take several weeks for your eye to go back to its original shape. By not switching to your glasses, the surgery could have undesirable results due to inaccurate measurements. Different types of contacts have different effects on your eyes. If you have soft contacts, stop wearing them at least two weeks before your evaluation. If you wear toric soft lenses or rigid gas permeable (RGP) contacts, take a break from them for at least 3 weeks. Hard lenses will require you to stop wearing them 4 weeks ahead of time.

The Day Before LASIK Surgery
The day before your LASIK surgery, stop using creams, lotions, makeup and perfumes. These products may increase the risk of infection. Your LASIK surgeon may also ask you to thoroughly wash your eye lashes to remove any debris. Be sure that you already have transportation arranged to and from the surgery and for your first follow up appointment as well.

With the right preparation and education of LASIK San Francisco, you can get the best results possible.

Picking Granite Countertops Finish

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

You’ve sorted through all of the different countertop materials and have finally decided to go with Utah granite countertops. However, your decision process doesn’t start there! There are many different types of stones, colors, edges, and finished to choose from. Let’s explore all of your countertop finishes.

Honed Finish
A honed finish is a smooth matte finish. If you are concerned about etching, a honed finish for your countertops is a good way to go because it won’t etch as much and won’t be as noticeable.

Poslished Finish
Polished finishes are the most popular type of finish for Utah countertops. It is a glossy smooth surface that really brings out the natural colors of the stone. Contrary to what many may beleive, the glossy look actually comes from the natural reflections of the stone’s crystals rather than a coating.

Tubmled Finish
Toubled finishes are popular for decorative stonework like on kitchen backsplashes. This finish is created by tubmling pieces of the stone to get a worn appearance. It has a slightly rough texture which can add gorgeous detail to a room.

Leather Finish
A leather finish is acheived by using wire rotary brushes on the stone. If it is a softer stone, the texture will be deeper. This type of finish can really add a unique look to your home.

Flamed Finish
A flamed finish on Utah countertops results in a rough surface. It is usually used outside or for shower floors because it provides traction.

With so many options, no two granite countertops have to be alike. Go through your options and truly make your countertops your own.

Creating an Online Brand Protection Strategy

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

As the internet gets bigger, more advanced and complex internet marketers have a greater challenge to face. If domain names associated to a brand aren’t bought and registered, communication channels, revenue, brand identity and consumer confidence can be put at risk. By creating an online brand protection strategy is created and put into play, it can save a lot of headaches and risk later on down the road.

Identification
First, you need to know what you need to protect. Identify your assets and rank them. These could be trademarks, brands, slogans, intellectual property, patents, and names of key personnel. Be sure to take into account new products and services, even if they haven’t been launched yet. If needed, it may be a good idea to hire a company to do a patent investigation to make sure you’ve got your bases covered.

Registered Domains
Find all of the domains you currently have registered. Once you have compiled a list, make sure that they are locked so you won’t have any surprises with unplanned or unauthorized deactivations or transfers. It may also be a good idea to set up an email account that only recieves emails about your domain names. This way, you can easily see all communication and manage your domains. You should also register any domains that have not already been registered. If you find any that have already been registered by another company you can try to aquire or recover them.

Monitor
Online brand protection is an ongoing process. You will continually need to monitor brand names, trademarks, logos, patents, and content to see how they are being represented online. Make sure to include any new products or services as they come along.

Being proactive is always the best solution to any problem. Don’t wait for an online brand protection problem to arise. Take action now to protect yourself later.

Tips for Building the Green Way

Monday, June 20th, 2011

Building a home is one of the great accomplishments in any persons life. This establishment of your success will stand as a reminder of your hard work for years to come. What else could you add to this event? The current trend of building homes is to save as much money as possible, in both building and in future energy costs. Those who seek out the green alternative typically do so with saving money in mind and find themselves aiding our efforts in lessening our environmental footprint on this planet. Many new developers, such as those responsible for the Daybreak homes in Utah, specifically design their homes with the intent of being environmentally and economically friendly while still maintaing a high level of class.

Tips to building your green dream home:

  • Tough Insulation – Fiberglass insulation, which is an environmental hazard in several ways, may have become obsolete. A company by the name of Bonded Logic Ultratouch has found a way to make insulation the green way. Consisting almost entirely of natural denim and cotton fibers, this insulation is not only safe to handle, but is more fire retardant and has a greater ability to dampen noise. By using materials that would otherwise be headed to the landfill, this eco-friendly method revolutionizes the way we keep our homes warm and cool.
  • The Walls that Live – An innovative new trend which allows homeowners to have houseplants on their walls has saved more than a few dollars in ventilation costs. The ability these plants have to ventilate smells, stale air and dust allow you to have truly “fresh” air running through your home. When installed on the outside of your home, it is a very cost effective insulation method.
  • Window Efficiency – Much like all Daybreak homes for sale, when installing new windows make sure they are energy efficient in the way they are built. This leads to the cost of your home being heated or cooled by dramatic percentages. The key lies within the windows ability to keep warm and cool air from leaving the home. In fact, if you install energy efficient windows you can receive a tax deduction for using greener methods.

The main aim of going green is primarily focused on helping the environment and slowing down our negative effects on this beautiful world. The benefit it brings concerning cutting down your monthly bills almost makes one wonder why every single person who builds a new home does it in the greenest way.

Improving Your Credit Score

Friday, June 17th, 2011

When buying a house, your 3 digit credit score is a very important number. It determines whether or not you will be approved for a loan to buy one of those Daybreak homes for sale and what your interest rate will be. Currently, experts are saying that in this market any score below 600 will make it difficult to get a loan. So, if you fall below a credit score of 600, what can you do?

The biggest things that are factored into your credit score are payment history and your current debts. These areas are where you need to focus your efforts.

Payment History
It is so incredibly important to your credit score to make sure you pay all your bills on time! If you miss your payments, all of your work will be for nothing. Set up payment reminders, write it on your calendar, or use an auto pay if available. If you are a few days late, don’t worry too much. Usually creditors won’t report a late payment unless it is more than 30 days past due.

Taking Care of Current Debts
Paying down some of your debts are like an adrenaline rush for your credit score. Paying off debt is much easier said than done but you’ll be thanking yourself later for it. When you pay your balances, focus on the larger amounts that are showing on your credit report. these are the ones that are affecting your score. In addition, pay off credit cards that have the highest interest rates first so you don’t have to pay so much in interest.

When you have payed off your credit cards, be careful about closing those accounts as closing the account could impact your credit history. If you have a short history, don’t open new accounts now, this tells your lender that you are relying too much on credit.

Improving you credit not only will help you to buy one of the Daybreak Homes Utah, but also will give you peace of mind. You won’t constantly be stressing about your finances and be able to enjoy your life. Work on it now and get it taken care of. It may mean a few months or years of living on a tight budget, but you’ll be better off in the future for it.
