Choosing a Dentist in Madison, WI

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

It’s not hard to find a dentist that will take your money. It’s a bit more difficult to find a good one. Dentists in Madison, WI are no different. Whether you’re looking for general dentistry, orthopedics, or cosmetic dentistry Madison has a lot of choices. It’s well worth your time to thoroughly check out dentists before you settle on one.

We’ve all heard horror stories about people going through the stress of sitting in a dentist’s chair, leaving the office thinking everything was fine, and then realizing a year or so later that the dentist made a huge mistake and the fix is going to be far worse than the initial minor job.

Your first step should be asking your friends in Madison if they have a dentist they love. This will narrow it down a lot, especially if you start hearing the same names repeated over and over.

When you go to a new dentist, start with a simple cleaning. See how willing he or she is to listen to you, ask for a list of patient references, and even Google the dentist’s name to see what people are saying.

If you’re looking for a specialty dentist, of course there is going to be fewer options. But don’t think this means you shouldn’t be just as selective. A poorly fitting set of dentures can be as devastating as a bad toothache. The kind of cosmetic dentistry Madison patients recommend will have a pretty good showcase of his or her work and a lot of positive references. Good specialists are out there. You just need to take the time to find them.

Fortunately, there are some great dentists in Madison, WI. That’s why you should never have to settle for a bad one. Just make sure you take the time to do your research on dentists. This can save you a lot of trouble in the future.

The Need for Utah DUI Lawyers

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Utah defense lawyers are among the most disliked professionals in the state. Or at least until you need one. And Utah DUI lawyers are the most hated of them all. For sure there are some who fit the sleazy stereotype, but I’d like to speak in defense of the men and women who represent drunk drivers.

You may think they’re all fortune hunters with shady morals — getting rich helping the most dangerous among us never have to accept consequences for their crimes. It’s true; guilty people may get off in the course of seeking justice, but the role of a defense lawyer is an essential part of that justice system.

You may never need a DUI lawyer yourself, but you’d be shocked how many people do at some point, whether they were actually guilty or not. That’s because DUI arrests depend on a large amount of procedural evidence that can return false results. Breathalyzers can pick up alcohol from one drink you had hours before you started to drive — or from mouthwash. Blood tests are often skipped at the scene. Where a DUI is in question, Utah law requires these procedures are followed to the letter.

Although we all appreciate the work police officers do, they are human beings and they make mistakes. If you cross a lane line late at night, alcohol and drugs are the first reasons a patrolman is going to imagine. This may affect how they handle a stop, changing what ought to be an inattentive driving citation to driving under the influence charge. A Utah DUI may stay on your driving record for the rest of your life, even after criminal charges are dropped. A Utah DUI lawyer keeps innocent people out of trouble as well as defend criminals.

Driving under the influence is a serious crime, so it’s a very serious accusation. Most Utahans support the Constitution, which is what provides everyone the right to a fair trial with a robust defense. If we didn’t have Utah DUI defenders, it would weaken our justice system for everyone.

Why Should You Come to Boston for Dental Implants?

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Although the technology for dental implants has been around for many years, it’s still an art mastered by only a handful of cosmetic dentists. Boston has risen as a Mecca of sorts for the practice. People from around the Northeast and beyond make the trip for Boston dental implant work.

Why would someone bother to travel such long distances, even through New York City, to see a Boston implant dentist? Simply because they are the best in the world. Much of the progressive research going into tooth implants has taken place in Boston. And this work continues at the dental schools at Tufts and Harvard. This means the dental surgeons in Boston are among the most experienced and well trained in dental implants of anywhere in the world.

Boston cosmetic dentists have also mastered the next phase of dental implant innovation, Teeth in an Hour dental implants. Traditional implants start with surgery to place a titanium root-like structure into the bone of the jaw. After this, patients must wait sometimes months for the bone to completely heal before a false tooth can be mounted. With immediate implants, the tooth can be restored at the same time as the surgery. Obviously this is a delicate procedure, which is why there aren’t many dentist who do it. With new procedures like this, the measure of a qualified practitioner is first training, and second, experience. Boston is one of the best places in the world for this kind of training. As for experience, the best Boston implant dentists have performed thousands of osseointegrated implant procedures.

Boston dental implant technology isn’t the only area of leading innovation in the city. At Tufts University, researchers have been pioneers in new dental bonding materials, improved teeth whitening methods, and other improvements in dental care. Many of these materials and procedures have become widely used across the country. But it’s not difficult to understand why the innovators are still the best.

Tribute to Roughnecks and Oil Wells

Monday, February 27th, 2012

The United States has been a primary player in the discovery/mining of oil since oil became relevant to modern day industry. Below we will relate the history of the North American oil industry chronologically and geographically. From gas and oilfield equipment companies to the rig Roughnecks, there are countless workers who have placed their livelihood on the existence of oil, and to that end we pay tribute with words.

  • Northwestern Pennsylvania’s 1859 Oil Discovery – In terms of importance, some would argue that the oil well drilled in the middle of northwestern Pennysylvania farm country is among the frontrunners. The reason being it’s sole purpose, which was to find oil. It used to be that if you happened upon oil you would then make efforts to dig an oil well, but you wouldn’t actively pursue petroleum. This well dug by “Colonel” Edwin Drake, for which the well was subsequently named, and sparked an international proactive search for petroleum. Evidence suggests that Native Americans, possibly as far back as 1410 AD, had been utilizing Pennysylvani’s oil seeps for uses in curing animal hides, creating weapons and tools, and medical treatments. The primary attraction for early capitalists to invest in the search for oil was its uses as an illuminant.
  • The Birthplace of the Modern Oil Industry in Spindletop, Texas – Well outside the walls of a hospital, on a hill formed by a giant underground dome of salt, oil made it’s way closer and closer to the surface pushed by the ever growing dome named “Spindletop”. As was the case in Pennsylvania, Native Americans had been using oil in their daily lives. Spanish explorers even happened upon oil in 1543 when trudging along the shores of what is now known as Texas. When they applied the “sticky tar” to the outside of their boots it made them waterproof. Up until the discovery of oil on Spindletop, Pennsylvania had been the main producer of oil in the United States. When a few drillers from Pennsylvania made their way to Texas and applied their expertise in oil extraction, a few wells began producing 250-300 barrels of oil in a day. This attracted newly formed oil companies to spread themselves across the state of Texas searching for hidden reserves of oil.
  • California’s Self-Sufficiency in Oil – The oil wells in California have never been considered a main producer for oil. It did however provide enough oil for the nearby populations of San Francisco just 6 years after the Pennsylvania boom, which was by far the most condensely populated area around. But the best was yet to come, as undiscovered oil fields slept just near Los Angeles. Two years after the first well was drilled by Edward L. Doheny, 80 wells were producing significant amounts of oil.

The discovery of oil and the wealth that comes along has been a massive factor in the way American politics has been played. California’s Doheny would eventually become a millionaire, gaining enough notoriety to run for the Democratic nomination for Vice-President of the United States in 1920. Oil millionaires eventually paved the way for other energy tycoons. Numbers today estimate that there are at least 41 billionaires who made their fortune investing in and developing new ways to harvest energy, such as the use of frac equipment. While coal and wood were considered the original sources of energy, it was oil that allowed energy to dictate wealth and provide the countless jobs it has today.

Apple profiles law firm use of iPads

Friday, February 24th, 2012

By Amazing Firms Amazing Practices, Gerry Riskin.

The iPad has become a formidable competitive weapon for law firms:

Quote from Fennemore Craig case study on Apple.com/business:

"If I didn't have an iPad as a lawyer, I'd be at a major disadvantage,"

Quote from Virtual Strategy Magazine article: iPad® Harnessed by Law Firm to Sharpen Client Service

Now, legal materials live on a fleet of iPads that Fennemore Craig pre-loads and loans to clients and adversaries.  Communication with lawyers occurs instantly through built-in FaceTime or Skype apps.

My opinion:  The worry over what kind of laptop to buy is fading because of the domination of the ubiquitous iPad.  If you have not acquired iPads for every lawyer in your firm, at least provide them to a subgroup in exchange for some serious exploration as to how the iPad can assist in your substantive practices as well as your relationships with your clients.  Every day that passes is increasing the relevance of the iPad to your competitive position.

For Sanity’s Sake – Budgeting Your Vacation

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

With the necessity of long work weeks and workdays of the utmost importance in terms of paying bills and support your family, most often travel and vacations are sacrificed for the good of saving money. While putting in a 60 hour week is very admirable there have been conclusive studies that correlate long work weeks and increased stress levels or personal unhappiness. Plainly speaking, when you don’t allow yourself the time you need to let go of your workday burdens and experience this wonderful planet we live on, you’re putting yourself at risk for EXTREME unhappiness. Now, having the desire to take an extended vacation is terrific, but how realistic is this goal? Oh looky there, here comes that marvelous word we all love to hate…BUDGET! Budgets are ridiculously daunting, with the needs of now likely trumping any potential wants of later. I am here today to affirm the evasive fact that having a budget is possible, regardless of how much or little you make.

Today I will generously provide you with tips on planning and budgeting for your potential vacation.

  • The Perfect Location – It would be quite pointless for us to discuss vacation budgets if you never decide on where it is what you want to visit. There are many travel agencies out there that allow you to pick from a myraid of destinations, all the while graciously being your historical guide throughout the vacation. These businesses, like several LDS travel agencies out there, make it easy and rather needless to think about destination and plan out every step of the trip. While this may be the route for some, there are others who prefer to adventure forth on their own. There are sites that help you Budget Your Trip, but follow these tips for self-planning.
    • Most couples plan to spend around $2,000 to $5,000 on any given trip. The most expensive part of the trip tends to be the travel. A common misconception is that a vacation needs to be to a distant location, but it might surprise you how many people haven’t even visited tourist destinations in their own state or country. Instead of flying, try driving to a nearby destination, thus allowing you more money to spend on potential luxuries.
    • It would make sense that beaches will be packed around summer and ski resort lifts all full in the winter months. The natural way to avoid the big crowds and hiked up accomodation prices is to visit a destination in its off-season. Not only does it save money, but it can cut down on potential stress caused by other travelers. If you were to travel in a mid-size group, much like in LDS Church History tours, it can help cut down on line waits and increase the amount of destinations you are able to see due to the established relationship most tour companies have with locations.
  • When To Save and Where To Splurge
    • Save On:
      • Airport luxuries (food, drink or idle time activities)
      • In-room service and phone calls
      • Forgettable and poorly made souvenirs
      • Taxis or other tranpsportation costs
      • Purchasing new clothes for a vacation
    • Splurge On:
      • A comfortable and clean hotel
      • Balcony and great views
      • A trustworthy camera
      • Comfortable shoes
      • A 5 star hotel (a few times throughout your trip)

When on vacation we tend to let our guard down on our wallets, but frivolous spending never makes a trip more enjoyable. The only thing it’s good for is causing anxiety issues once the good feelings of the vacation have worn off and you’re back at home once again.

Helpful Tips and Harmful Tricks in Resume Writing

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Today, the jobless rate stands at 8.3%, with a good number of those Americans actively seeking employment on a daily basis. With the various job markets being as competitive as they are, it’s not surprise that someone can apply to 8 or 9 different companies without even a courtesy call (or email) letting you know your resume has been received. This is, in large part, due to the massive volume of resumes companies with available positions can receive on a daily basis. So, a good question that can be asked is this, how I receive professional resume help so my resume will catch the eye of my potential employer.

Many different people have tried many different tactics in order to have their resume stand out, with the more notable attempts being highlighted in an article post by AOL on Crazy Resumes and Lasting Impressions. While this may be very helpful in becoming the butt-end of an inner-office joke, more often than not the key to writing a good resume is simplicity and straightforwardness.

Simplicity and straightforwardness may seem like a very general piece of advice for writing resumes, but I can assure you its not. Instead of writing an objective in a resume, get straight to the point of why they should hire you by listing your qualifications and accomplishments. When your potential employer doesn’t have to read through a pointless objective statement (Yes, they know your objective is to obtain a position at their company), they instead focus on your potential value to a company. While its undoubtedly true you have a magnificent personality, keep them guessing regarding your persona until the interview, as there will be plenty of time for them to get to know you. So simply put, state why you’d be best filling the position they need filled.

A few other helpful tips in resume writing could be:

  • Avoid using first person references – Instead of saying, “I danced with the wolves”, try saying, “Danced with wolves”. This lets them know you have full faith they know you’re speaking about yourself in your resume.
  • Don’t use a thesaurus – There is a rumor that employers will be more impressed if you use large words in your resume. This is entirely false and where the need for simplicity comes into play.
  • Pointless Objectives – As stated previously, an objective can actually be used against you if deemed inappropriate or not related to what your employer wants to know. Save it for the interview.
  • Generally Specific – A good way to format a resume is by starting with general statements, then identifying specifics regarding accomplishments or qualifications.

If your skills simply do not lie in the area of writing resumes (Don’t worry, that is the case for most people), then there are resume writing services which help those desperately in need of resume guidance.

Tackling Emergency Preparedness Head On

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

The world is a crazy place. With contentions rising on a daily basis it’s no surprise that self-sufficiency is a trending topic. What is self-sufficiency you ask? Well, I’m glad you did.

Resources cite that self-sufficiency, “May be a return to a frontier spirit for an American, or a yearning for a lost rural idyll for an Englishman”. It could also be said that self-sufficiency is displaying a great love of personal freedom and providing for yourself and your family in a way that is almost non-existent in modern-day Western culture.

While there are many ways to obtain a self-sufficient lifestyle, whether it be through frugal spending or owning your home instead of renting or having a mortgage, but what is most often on the minds of those thrifty livers is food storage for survival.

If you’re just beginning to prepare for the potential of limited access to mass produced foods, then preparing your food storage can seem overwhelming. Who knows where to begin and which direction to go from there?

Well straight from the mouth of the experts, what follows are 4 elements of preparedness that you should follow to start a family survival plan.

    1. Enough supplies to last at least 14 days (if you stay where you are).
    2. Enough supplies to last at least 6 months (staying where you are or moving to another location).
    3. Long term: the skills and ability to provide food, water clothing, and shelter for your family for 20 years.
    4. The desire to survive extreme circumstances without sacrificing your humanity or your values.

When preparing your emergency food storage, instead of seeing all that needs to be done (which can be incredibly scary), start with a 72 hour Kit and an family emergency meet up destination. Starting small and working your way up to full preparedness is a wonderful way to begin.

Increase Speed Through Broadband Tweaks

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Past and present practices of data cabling give insight as to what the future holds. The leaps and bounds that have been made in the world of data-transport are astonishing, with speeds in just 1984 being considered incredibly slow and brought to light the worth of this data communication method. However, it now is in the fingertips of the consumer to select the desired provider of lightning fast download/upload speeds. If this isn’t fully satisfactory, there are tips and tweaks that can be made with the potential result being increased broadband speed.
Here’s how:

There are those who dedicate their time to self-improving all aspects of their daily life. This is the case for structured cabling broadband speed tweaks, as it is both beneficial and wise to take full advantage of every service provided. Now it’s important to note that these changes should only be made after you’re certain your connection is both reliable and consistent. These changes do not in any way make up for a faulty installation, network issue, or physical hardware malfunction that may have occurred to your connection.

  • TCP/IP Network Protocol

The various parameters involved in the TCP/IP Network protocol settings can be tweaked to increase bandwidth limitations, as a majority of all users have the default TCP/IP settings active by Windows Registry. Using a registry editor tweak the parameters of the following:

    • Time-To-Live (TTL)
    • Maximum Segment Size (MSS)
    • Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU)
    • TCP receive window size

The TCP/IP settings are located in the router or modem administrative panel as well. Tweaking these can additionally help ease the bandwidth restrictions for your connection.

  • Browser Settings

Tweaking your browser to suppress the download of large images when browsing on the internet, your network bandwidth can be utilized where it is most needed as opposed to unecessary duties.

In order to fully determine whether or not your speed tweaks have worked, run an Internet speed test after you’ve applied certain settings. This will help you gauge whether or not your efforts have been successful. It may take a while to find the right balance of settings, but once you utilize the full amount of bandwidth available to you, you’ll truly be living the frugal lifestyle.

Agricultural Inventions and Industrial Innovations

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

To do a job right you will often need the best equipment, specially designed for whatever work environment you’re in. Speaking solely of the different industries, whether it be mining, gas and oil, or agriculture, it’s absolutely essential to have the right equipment for storage and means to load and unload into that storage. In every different age there has been advances in machinery that allow those industrial workers to streamline the process and produce goods on a much larger scale at a much faster rate. For example, oil field equipment has gone from hand dug wells to being 115 ft. in depth because of the unique ways developed to utilize ever inch of the oil field. Today we’ll be focusing on the agricultural industry and all of the benefits these advancements have lent to farmers and other industry workers alike.

Innovations

  • Agricultural – This story begins with corn and cotton, and how the high demand of each lead to incredible inventions.
    • Life on the Farmstead – Beginning with sowing by hand and cultivating by hoe, the invention of the cotton gin marked the beginning of the agricultural revolution that took place between the 16th and 18th centuries. The cotton gin eliminated the need to separate cotton fibers from cotton seeds, this lead to hundreds of man-hours being saved and the southern states becoming extremely wealthy due to the increased production. Some 20 years later, Jethro Wood patented a revised version of Charles Newbold’s cast-iron plow. This new iron plow with interchangeable parts allowed farmers to adjust their plow to the soil condition they were working with, thus allowing all types of land to be cultivated for agricultural use. After the later patents of the reaper and threshing machine the need for reliable storage for the abundance of goods became a necessity, leading way to the 1842 invention of the grain elevator in upstate New York. With all of these increases in supply it was no longer a question of supporting your local community, but making your product available on a national scale which helped our country grow at a rapid pace. Later on the implementation of conveyor belts such as the enclosed conveyor systems allowed goods to be stored for longer without the usual risk of spoiling due to exposure to the elements.
  • This brief tribute to those great inventors who helped shape the way goods were manufactured and stored is nowhere near the recognition they deserve, but hopefully some will think of these great individuals when enjoying modern day luxuries.
